In a game that featured nearly 850 yards of offense, it was the Central College defense that ultimately sealed a 31 – 24 victory over the University of Dubuque Saturday afternoon. With the game tied at 24 with 6:30 to go in the fourth quarter, the Spartans were inside the Central 10 yard line and looking to retake the lead, and that’s when the Dutch “D” came up big. Pella-native Spencer Boeyink came up with a school-record tying 94-yard pick six that would wind up being the game-winning touchdown. Of Central’s 349 total yards of offense, 321 of them came via the ground attack. The Dutch are now 2 – 2 on the season and 1 – 0 in the Iowa Conference. They have another home game next Saturday against Simpson, who is also 1 – 0 in the league after narrowly beating Wartburg 20 – 19.
