Coach Doug Cutler and several of the other cross country coaches for Pella High and middle schools are running in the Des Moines Marathon next Sunday for a good cause. The goal for the coaches is to raise $2,600 so they can establish an annual scholarship in honor of the late Athletic Director, Bill Van Horn, for athletes looking to continue to stay competitive in their collegiate careers. Coach Cutler explains how you can donate money towards their cause. “You can mail a check to the high school or myself or Coach Hammann,” Cutler explained. “We’re kind of asking for pledges. A lot of people are donating a dollar for every mile we run for $26, or some people are doubling it for $52. Some people are just making donations of $5 or $10, so instead of buying a t-shirt when those come out, they use the money for this.” Right now, the coaches have raised $302, according to www.pellacrosscountry.com, which is 12% of their goal of $2,600. Again, you can donate money by simply going to Pella’s previously mentioned cross country website and scrolling to the bottom of the page and clicking on the “Donate” button. Any and all donations are welcome.
