The Knoxville City Council helped bring forth more progress at the VA Campus during this past week’s regular meeting. The Council voted to approve an agreement between the Knoxville Veterans Alliance, the Department of Veterans Affairs, and the State Historic Preservation Office on the VA Campus. The agreement is one of several steps that needed to be taken as the full lease gets closer to being signed. City Manager Harold Stewart says that the agreement gives the City some rights and control as to preserving the historic nature of the campus.
The City also approved an Urban Renewal Area for the campus. This will allow the City to legally enter into a tax increment finance agreement with Knoxville Veterans Alliance and create incentives to growing the campus.
