The rains over the weekend brought a significant drop in drought affected areas across the state, according to the latest USDA Drought Monitor. Across the state there was a 10% drop in extreme drought, and a 5% drop in severe drought. This leaves about 5% of the state in a moderate drought, the least severe designation seen in the state in since the drought reached its peak. Marion County is still almost entirely in the extreme drought designation, with a small portion in the southeast of the county in severe drought.
