Governor Terry Branstad has declared today as Dan Gable Day in the state of Iowa. It’s a way to recognize and honor the legendary Olympic wrestler and Iowa coach. Knoxville High School wrestling coach Ron Peterson Gable works hard to promote the sport across the state, adding its incredible the number of wrestling events Gable attends. Peterson explains that Gable is the standard that every Iowa wrestler measures against. 15 years after he retired from coaching, Peterson says Gable is still an icon and a recognizable figure for people of all ages in Iowa, from the long-time fans to the current high school wrestlers.
