Some Lake Prairie Township residents are voicing opposition to an expansion of a hog confinement operation located south of Pella. Two couples – Cathy and Robert Van Donselaar and Carla and Kristina Lantz both submitted letters to the Marion County Board of Supervisors saying that the stench from a confinement on the Mahaska side of the county line already impacts their quality of life, and expansion would only make that odar greater. County Environmental Health Manager Cory Frank told the Supervisors Monday that due to set-back requirements, the expansion may be moved to Mahaska County. Any comments or questions on the confinement expansion may be directed toward the Marion County Board of Supervisors or the Iowa DNR. They will then be submitted with the matrix scoring grid to be reviewed by the Iowa DNR.
