Redistricting done after the census has created some political races with Marion County as the focus. Both Senate District 14 and House District 28 include all of Marion County except for Pella and Lake Prairie Township. That accounts for 15,000 registered voters, twice as many as any other county in the districts. Those voters are fairly evenly divided, too – 31% are registered Democrats, 32% are registered Republicans, and 37% are no party voters.

Knoxville and the surrounding Knoxville Township alone have almost 7700 registered voters. That itself is more than the other counties in the districts, which include Lucas, Decatur, Clarke, Wayne, and a southern part of Jasper.
