The Murray Mustangs proved to be too much for Melcher-Dallas’ basketball teams, as they handily won in both the girls’ and boys’ contests Tuesday. Following a 62 – 18 loss to Moravia on Friday, the Saints’ girls just couldn’t get their offense going in a 50 – 27 loss. On the boys’ side, whatever momentum they had after crushing Moravia 84 – 29 on Friday, seemed to dissipate over the weekend, as Murray handled them 78 – 32. The Mustangs were up 46 – 21 half, and the injury bug seemed to bite the Saints at the worst times. One player had to leave the game to have stitches put in, while another Saint player stepped on a loose ball and awkwardly twisted his ankle and had to leave for the rest of the game. Saints’ head boys coach, Jim Wells, told KNIA/KRLS Sports, that Murray was just shooting the ball well, even from six feet outside of the perimeter, a shot that’s not only low-percentage, but hard to defend. The Saints’ girls are now 1 – 3 on the year, while the boys have a record of 1 – 2, and each team will stay on the road to face Seymour this Friday in another doubleheader.
