As county residents continue shoveling out the snow that fell on Thursday, MidAmerican Energy reminds them to make sure gas meters and pressure regulators are free of snow and ice as well. Tina Potthoff, at MidAmerican, says that snow and ice can interrupt natural gas supply and create an unsafe operating condition. She says to make sure all venting systems are clear outside of your home, including furnaces, dryers, and water heater vents. Blocked vents could create carbon monoxide that can build to dangerous levels. Potthoff also reminds people to avoid plowing or piling snow against meters and vents.
