The Pella City Council passed a first reading of an ordinance amending electrical rates in the City at their meeting this week. In October the council met with Missouri River Energy Services to review a study. The study deals with electric rates and how they will have to change in the future based on cost for the city and Missouri River Energy Services. A representative from Missouri River Energy Services presented the idea of having higher costs for electric rates in the Summer months in an effort to cut down on energy waste, while balancing out the higher summer rates with lower rates the rest of the year. The season rate ordinance will have to pass two more readings before it can be adopted.
