A Christmas Day accident on Highway 5 and Pleasant Street in Pleasantville sent two to Mercy Hospital in Des Moines yesterday. Pleasantville Emergency Services, Knoxville Ambulance, Marion County Deputies and the Iowa State patrol responded to the rollover accident shortly after one yesterday afternoon. The Iowa State Patrol reports that a 2000 Honda CRV driven by Blake Shafer, 21, of West Des Moines was traveling northbound, when Shafer fell asleep, and veered off the roadway into the ditch, rolled, and landed on its wheels. Before the vehicle rolled, a passenger in the right rear seat, Tasha Isley, 19, was ejected from the vehicle. Isley was not wearing a seatbelt. Shafer was cited for failure to maintain control, and the vehicle was totaled.
