After decent success in their non-conference games, the Central men’s and women’s basketball teams will take to the road to open Iowa Conference play this afternoon in a match-up with conference favorite Coe College. The Dutch women didn’t find the momentum they were looking for heading into today’s game; falling to Monmouth on Wednesday by a final score of 81 – 48. Both the Dutch and Kohawks are 7 – 4, and each have had their problems with an inconsistent offense. The Coe men return several of their players from last year’s team and are projected as the favorites to win the Iowa Conference. Head coach Craig Douma told KNIA/KRLS Sports that it will be key for his guys to get off to a quick start and not show any rust after having 20-plus days between games. Douma also said that this game will be a true measuring stick as to where they are as a team at this point in the season. Today’s doubleheader will be aired live on 92.1 KRLS with Cory Houser calling the action, starting with the KNIA/KRLS pregame show at 1:45 p.m. and the women tipping off at 2:00. The Iowa Conference showdown will also be streamed live at kniakrls.com.
