Central baseball came away with a pair of seven-inning wins on Saturday, keeping their season spotless at this point in the year. They started the day off with a 15 – 11 win over Newbury that went eight innings to decide a winner. Dutch starter, Ryan Goetzinger was pegged with five earned runs, but allowed nine to cross the plate before being yanked in the fifth inning, despite getting a 6 – 1 cushion to work with. Jordan Judkins was perfect at the plate; going 4-for-4 and driving in three. In the nightcap of the doubleheader, Central beat Newbury 4 – 2, scoring all of their runs on just three hits. Matt Schissel went 5-and-two-thirds giving up two runs, but didn’t factor into the decision, as Mark Schroeder earned a win out of the bullpen. With the game tied at two, in the bottom of the sixth, a pair of hit-by-pitches put runners at the corners, and designated hitter, Andrew O’Toole doubled both of them in to give the Dutch the lead for good. Central is 4 – 0 to begin the year, and will wrap up their play in the Gene Cusic Classic by playing Olivet, Michigan at 10:00 a.m. today.
