

The Pella boys’ golfers came away with a 17-stroke victory and defended their championship at the Knoxville Invitational on Saturday. It was the first 18-hole round of the year for most of the squads competing; Cory Elliott was the medalist on the day with a score of 75, while teammate Sean Rennich earned sole third place by winning a playoff with his total of 79. Justin Stravers of Pella Christian was the Eagles’ top golfer with his round of 79. Pella’s team score was 317, Grinnell was second at 334, Knoxville’s Gold Squad had 343 and finished fourth, and Pella Christian was sixth with a total of 351. The Little Dutch are next in action on Tuesday in Oskaloosa, and the Eagles golf on Monday at West Marshall.
The tournament was delayed about an hour because of cold weather start. Pella is now 19-1 on the season.
