This past spring has set the record for the wettest Iowa spring, besting 141 years of state records. State Climatologist Harry Hillaker tells KNIA/KRLS News that Iowa has received 16.65 inches of precipitation since March 1. Normal precipitation during this time is 10.22 in. The previous record was 15.36 inches, set in 1892. These numbers will continue to increase as more rain has fallen since they were recorded Wednesday. In addition to being the wettest spring, this year has also been the wettest year to date. Since Jan. 1 Iowa has received 18.92 inches, which is almost 7 inches above normal. The previous record was about 1.2 inches less in 1973.
