Around 30 people were at Taso’s Steakhouse last night as they learned more about plans for the Knoxville Downtown Streetscape project. Engineer Greg Roth says that contractors will have the option to start the project on either July 29th or next spring; those options should keep prices down, according to Roth. The biggest concern of those in the audience was the narrowing of the road from 70 feet to 60 feet, matching the width on Robinson Street from First to Second Street. Some were concerned that parked delivery trucks would make traffic tougher to navigate with the narrow roads. Roth said that the change is meant to make downtown more pedestrian friendly, citing Grinnell as a community that recently narrowed their downtown area and is having success.
