The Pella Christian softball team experienced an up-and-down week to close their regular season. It started with a 15 – 3 loss to Knoxville, followed by a sweep of Grinnell, and they ended with the Panthers sweeping them in a doubleheader on Friday. Now, the Eagles turn their attention to North Mahaska for their Class 2A softball regional on Tuesday. The Warhawks have been a streaky team this year and they ended the regular season with a mark of 17 – 10. Both the Eagles and Warhawks played one another back on June 1 in an Oskaloosa tournament, and it was Pella Christian that ended on top, 6 – 5. Coach Nate Van Wyk says that North Mahaska puts the pressure on all throughout their line-up and waits to capitalize on their opponents’ mistakes. Van Wyk added that his defense will need to buckle down and be ready to go for Tuesday’s match if they want to keep their season alive. Tuesday’s postseason contest can be heard live on 92.1 KRLS.
