Pella and Knoxville were very energy and cost efficient in last night’s Class 4A regional softball tournament opener. The contest took just over an hour to complete, and when the infield dust settled, the Lady Dutch ended up on top, 4 – 1. All four of Pella’s runs came with two outs; Sierra Williams had a pair of two-out doubles to drive in three runs, and McKenna Rozenberg also singled home a run. Elyse Sadler limited Knoxville to just four hits and allowed one unearned run in a seven-inning effort. After the game, Pella coach, Krista DeMeuelenaere said that though Sadler was sharp, it was a complete team effort that propelled them to victory last night. Coach Steph Christner said that her girls hit the ball hard, but they just couldn’t find any holes. Cheyenne Jones was 2-for-4 at the plate and Lucy Olson had a double and a run scored to highlight Knoxville’s night at the plate. Pella moves on to play Winterset in the Class 4A semifinals tomorrow night, while Knoxville ends their season at 13 – 15.
