After a six day layoff between games, Twin Cedars, who has understandably been chomping at the bit to get going, will face Newman Catholic of Mason City in the Class 1A state baseball semifinals, with a trip to the finals on the line. The Knights have been a dangerous team for several years; they’ve won their conference each year consecutively for the last 33 seasons, and enter play today with a record of 27 – 6. They beat Woodbury Central on Friday by a final score of 11 – 6. Coach Matt Miller says that the Knights do all of the small things very well, and his team will need to take advantage of every opportunity they have offensively. At the same time, Miller added, his team knows that they can play with anybody and win, and that they’re going to go out there and play Saber baseball. Twin Cedars toppled the three-time defending state champions, Martensdale – St. Mary’s in their first round game, 4 – 1 in nine innings. You can hear today’s “final four” match-up live on AM 1320 KNIA and streamed live at KNIAKRLS.com with Cory Houser and Jim Dingeman on the call. The pregame coverage starts at 11:45 a.m. with first pitch scheduled for noon.
