School staff and administrators work hard to take proactive measures when battling the heat. Knoxville Superintendent Dr. Randy Flack says one of the biggest problems is that the warm overnight temperature means buildings don’t have a chance to cool down. He says custodial staff arrive early to open up the buildings and get air circulated before the day begins. Dr. Flack adds that they try to keep elementary students from using too much energy while outside, and they encourage every student have a water bottle for use during the day.
