Pella Christian started the season with a bang defeating Lynnville-Sully, the fourth ranked team in Class A 17-12 at home Friday night. The Eagles started the scoring and set the tone midway through the first quarter with a long run from Dillon Branderhorst. Freshman David Kacmarynski recovered a Lynnville-Sully fumble on the first play of the ensuing drive giving possession right back to the Eagles and they made the most of it. A 57 yard run by Mason Howerzyl set up a 2 yard touchdown run by Miles Wichhart giving the Eagles a 14-0 lead after one quarter. One question coming in was how the offensive line would perform and Assistant Coach Darryl DeRuiter says they were much improved. Howerzyl led the ground attack for the Eagles with 91 yards while the Eagles defense, led by Zach Van Zee with 13 tackles, limited Lynnville-Sully’s strong rushing attack to 177 total yards. The Eagles start the season 1-0 and will head to Monroe to face PCM in week two.
