We set a new record high temperature Friday afternoon. The thermometer reached 100 degrees, breaking the record that was set in 1954. Marion County Public Health nurse Judi Van Huzlen reminds listeners to be aware of the elderly population in the heat. She says that older people are more likely to be taking prescriptions that impair the body’s ability to regulate its temperature. Van Hulzen tells KNIA/KRLS News that relatives or neighbors should visit at-risk older adults at least twice a day. Van Hulzen adds to consider taking them to air-conditioned locations and ensure they have an electric fan.
