The federal government is under partial shutdown as a result of Congress failing to reach a deal on the budget. All essential government services are in operation. Locally, perhaps the biggest immediate effect will be on Lake Red Rock. Corp personnel tell KNIA KRLS News that the dam will continue to operate as normal, as will emergency response efforts, and work funded by prior year appropriations. As of this morning, all Corp operated campgrounds, day-use parks, and boat ramps will close. Campers must vacate by 8pm tomorrow.

Related to the partial shutdown, postal services will continue, and social security checks will also continue to be sent. The Iowa National Guard reports that up to 1000 members may be furloughed. Other effects will become apparent as the shutdown continues, and KNIA KRLS news will keep you updated. Regardless of the shutdown, the Affordable Care Act signup begins today.
