Ongoing Streetscape work in downtown Knoxville has uncovered a cracked water main, which leads into the Marion County Courthouse. Shortly before 2 p.m. today water service was cut off to the courthouse as crews worked to repair the damaged water main. Earlier, crews had noticed water seeping into their excavation, and when they uncovered the water main, they found it cracked. Crews are working to repair the main. City Manager Harold Stewart tells KNIA KRLS News that this underscores the importance of the Streetscape Project. All of the infrastructure under the streets around the square is very old, and is in urgent need of being replaced. At approximately 2:30 PM, Stewart told KNIA/KRLS News that repairs should be made and water restored within an hour.
