Most farmers in the area have finished harvesting their crops according to Justin Huebner from Two Rivers Cooperative in Pella. Huebner says most are now focusing on putting anhydrous or fertilizer down before the ground freezes and the snow starts to fly. He adds that corn yields were very good this fall, around 170 bushels per acre, however soybeans were a bit disappointing, averaging around 45 bushels per acre. Huebner concludes by saying we’ve got a lot of corn harvested here in the Hawkeye state, about 2 billion bushel carry out, which is twice the total that’s been historically considered “comfortable.”
