The final scores didn’t do the games justice, but Dallas Center-Grimes came out on top of both the Pella High girls’ and boys’ basketball teams on Friday night. The Fillies won 68 – 56; Pella raced out to a 23 – 12 lead, but couldn’t hold on in the second half, allowing 41 D-C-G points. Mackenzie Gustafson led all scorers with 21 points, and Jessica Holterhaus had a double-double. The Little Dutch couldn’t overcome 25 points from Austin Rix and they fell 61 – 49. The game was close under late in the third quarter, when the Mustangs went on a 14 – 0 run to swell their lead up to 18. Coach Mark Core says he learned a lot about his team from what happened after the loss rather than during the game. Isaac Naaktgeboren led the way for the Little Dutch with 19 points. Pella’s girls fall to 3 – 2 overall and the boys are now 3 – 1. They have a doubleheader this afternoon with Fairfield to try and get back on the winning side of things.
