Last year started with nearly ⅓ of the state in the extreme drought category, or worse. More than another quarter of the state’s surface fell into the severe category, and on New Year’s Day 2013, 100% of Iowa was at least suffering moderately dry conditions. As we start 2014, only a little more than ½ of the state suffers severe status or worse, and nearly ¼ of Iowa no longer suffers any drought conditions at all.
