HIRTA Vehicle

Tuesday night the Pella City Council approved a transportation agreement with the Heart of Iowa Regional Transit Agency, or HIRTA. The government program provides transportation services to 7 central Iowa counties including approximately 40,000 trips a year in Marion County. The result of this agreement will be the end of the city van program that had been available to local citizens at a discounted rate. Concerns raised at the council meeting were that while the majority of services provided by the van and HIRTA were overlapping, there were some differences, including scheduling rides, and the space available for bags while running errands.
