Gene Schmitz, Rehab Director, Physical Therapist and Athletic Trainer at Pella Regional is going to the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs to volunteer as a trainer to support American athletes. Schmitz says that there are two other training sites, one in Chula Vista, California, and the other in Lake Placid, New York. He says that Lake Placid is where most winter Olympians, such as those preparing for the upcoming games in Russia train. He adds that the sports he will be training athletes in include wrestling, weight lifting, shooting, pentathlon, men’s gymnastics, and paralympic swimming. Schmitz says he was there in 1994 and 1995 also preparing athletes for the 1996 Atlanta Summer Games.
