Knoxville’s 6th Annual Coaches vs. Cancer event is next Saturday. Since it’s beginning in 2009, the event has become the largest high school fundraiser in the United States. Girls basketball coach Jim Uitermarkt tells KNIA KRLS News that while basketball is a huge part of the event, he feels it gives the kids something other than basketball to focus on. However, he says the sport is maybe not something they will be involved in for the rest of their lives, it offers the chance to identify a cause that is important to them, and give them a life-long purpose. He says this is the third time the game has been against Chariton and the support from their community is appreciated as well.
