Knoxville’s School Board met last night. The Board heard a presentation from Marty Duffy, President of the Knoxville Education Association, which included a proposal of a 7.5% total package increase. Superintendent Dr. Randy Flack says the Board will consider the proposal and make a counter-proposal at the next meeting on February 4.

There was a report from Teacher Leadership and the Compensation Plan Committee, and the district will apply for a grant to develop a leadership program. Dr. Flack says that the district will be one of 130 schools in the state to apply for a grant for about $566,000, for the development of a teacher leadership program. The Iowa Legislature last year approved the teacher leadership and compensation program, which provides funding to support teacher leadership in schools across Iowa. Schools must apply for participation.

The final item was discussion on the 2014-2015 calendar. There will be a public hearing on the calendar at the February 4 meeting – this is a change; previously the meeting was set for February 10.
