Brooke Ramsey, Operations Manager for HIRTA, tells KNIA/KRLS News that over the weekend three of their six buses in their Pella fleet had the catalytic converters cut out, leaving the vehicles inoperable. She says that they appear to have been targeted because they sit high off the ground in an open space where someone can get in and out with the parts quickly. Lt. Paul Haase of the Pella Police Department says that this has been happening over the past few weeks in both Pella and Knoxville. He adds that when you sell an individual part to a scrap yard, photo identification is needed, which will hopefully provide an arrest in this string of thefts. Ramsey says the damaged vehicles will be out of service for the next three to five days until they can be repaired.
