This weekend is Knoxville’s 6th Annual Coaches vs. Cancer event. While the event is centered around basketball, and it has been the largest high school fundraiser ever in the United States, the real focus of the event is the people who are dealing with cancer. Coach Jim Uitermarkt says that there are three people who are fighting with cancer – either actively or in remission – honored during the event, between games. The honorees are brought onto the court, their stories are told, and all four teams, boys and girls from both Knoxville and Chariton, circle the court and the survivors together, to show support in their fight against this disease.
