The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office recently completed an investigation into a string of thefts. Star Auto in Sully first reported the theft of parts and scrap metal valued at $1,100 last June, and then a second theft of similar items valued at $2,000 in July. This January, the City of Kellogg reported the theft of iron sewer gates valued at $3,200, while Todd’s Tires in Kellogg reported the theft of car parts valued at $500. Surveillance camera footage provided the Sheriff’s Office with suspect and vehicle information which led to the search of a residence in Newton where items connected to the thefts were found. Two individuals were then charged, Randy Birkenholtz, 40, of Newton was charged with three counts of 2nd degree Theft, and one count of 4th degree Theft. Christian Wolfe, 20, of Newton was charged with two counts of 2nd degree Theft. 4th degree Theft is a Class D Felony and 2nd degree Theft is a serious misdemeanor.
