Just before 5pm Wednesday, Pella Police Officers were called to the 600 block of Franklin Street where a vehicle had got stuck in the plowed snow. According to witnesses, the driver, Joel K. Struik, 32 of Leighton, had left the scene on foot with two young children and was located near East 1st and Franklin where officers determined he was intoxicated. Struik then became non-compliant and aggressive with officers while screaming obscenities. Struik was subsequently arrested and charged with the following: operating while intoxicated, public intoxication, interference, driving while revoked, possession of drug paraphernalia, and two counts of neglect of a dependant person. Struik was held overnight at the Police Department. The Department would like to thank witnesses at the original scene for first calling in the situation and then assisting officers in locating the suspect.
