Dr. Dale Vander Broek, volunteer provider at The Good Samaritan Free Clinic in Knoxville and Pella says that the Affordable Care Act will have an effect on the clinic. He says patients who are seen at the clinic are un- or under-insured, but with the ACA, Iowa has a health insurance program for those who fit that criteria. Dr. Vander Broek says if these people are enrolled in the Iowa Health and Wellness plans, the need for the clinic could diminish. He adds that this would allow patients to choose the hospital and providers they see, which is an improvement, as the clinic can only provide very basic care, and more expensive testing and surgeries were hard to access.
