Greg Heartsill

Greg Heartsill, representative for Iowa House District 28, says the bill that got the most attention during the Legislative sessions recently, is the bill which would increase the state’s gasoline tax over the next three years. He says there are several reasons why he doesn’t believe the gas tax hike is the best option. One is with the gas tax increase, the heaviest burden would be on the smaller, more rural counties, while the five most populous counties in the state would receive an unfair amount of benefit from the proceeds of this hike. He adds that several proposals have been offered, including taking a ½ penny of sales tax and dedicating it to the highway infrastructure.
