An early morning fire at Highpoint Apartments, an apartment home community on E 13th Street in Pella, has resulted in the evacuation of one apartment complex and fire damage to at least one unit, and smoke damage to others. Shortly before 3AM the Pella Fire Department, Pella Ambulance, the Pella Police Department, and the Marion County Sheriff’s Office were called to the fire.

Pella Fire Chief Doug Van Gorkom tells KNIA/KRLS News that when crews arrived on scene, people were trapped on a balcony in the complex, as they were unable to exit the building because of the location of the fire. Pella’s ladder truck was on scene, and those on the balcony were rescued via ladder. All residents of the building have been relocated as damage is assessed.

No one was injured in the fire, and the investigation into its cause continues. KNIA/KRLS News will bring you more information as soon as it becomes official.
