One item discussed at this week’s Knoxville school board meeting was the use of the East Elementary building for senior citizen programs. Superintendent Dr. Randy Flack said that he has had discussion with city staff, and while there is a lot of work to do, there is space available. The GOAL alternative high school occupies the north end of the building, and Dr. Flack says, the Knoxville Dance Team uses the gym. He says there are several rooms that the school uses currently for storage of paper and supplies, as well as food storage for the Backpack Buddies program. But, he says, there are four or five classrooms that could be made available. He says it would be a good opportunity for the district and the community to provide something for the seniors and for the city in general.
