The VA Central Iowa Healthcare System has a Telehealth Program, which allows veterans have primary care physician care available to them, without traveling great distances to the nearest VA Medical Center. Pamela South, Nurse Manager with Home Telehealth at the Knoxville VA, says they can make the connection between the veteran and their provider, either in their home or the nearest Community Based Outpatient Clinic, to a specialist or provider in Des Moines or elsewhere, depending on what the need is for that veteran. She says it helps the veterans by having care in a timely manner, and by reducing their travel time as well.
