The Iowa DOT has proposed a replacement of the bridge deck over the Des Moines River, on Highway 316, which is just 3.9 miles north of Highway 5 in Polk County. This is a route commonly used by residents in the northwestern part of Marion County. Tony Gustafson, DOT spokesman, says the existing deck has some issues on the underside, that an overlay cannot address. He says the deck will be totally replaced, and the highway will be closed for the project. He says and proposed construction will begin in spring 2015. The DOT will hold a public information meeting Tuesday evening, March 25, at 5 at the Runnells Community Center. Gustafson says traffic will be detoured using 112th Street, Highways 5, 65 and 163.
