The Pella City Council received a welcome surprise during their meeting Tuesday evening. City Administrator Mike Nardini tells KNIA/KRLS News that Pella had previously approved $327,000 for a change order to remove any asbestos that was uncovered at the city’s power plant. During the initial phase of the project, which is the asbestos abatement phase, the only removal needed will cost the city $15,000, nowhere near the $327,000 originally budgeted. Nardini adds that deconstruction portion of the project will begin in early April, with completion expected sometime in July.
