Thursday the City of Pella is hosting the annual Public Safety Volunteers Appreciation Dinner. Mary Pommer, Human Resource and Payroll Specialist for the city tells KNIA/KRLS News that this event is held each year to honor the volunteers from the ambulance, fire department, and reserve police. Pommer says it’s a way for the city to say thank you for all the time, effort and risk taking that is involved with these volunteer positions. Police Chief Robert Bokinsky will emcee the event, and five local volunteers will receive plaques for 10, 15, and even 20 years of service to the community.
