May 11 through 17 is known nationally as Peace Officers Week, and is dedicated to memorializing those who serve in law enforcement at the city, county, state and federal level. Knoxville Police Chief Dan Losada says having a job where you voluntarily put yourself in the line of danger is unique, and it is oftentimes harder on the family. He says he tells his staff, and reminds himself to take advantage of every opportunity to celebrate life with family and friends. He says since 1791, when the first peace officer was known killed in the line of duty, 20,267 officers have died in the line of duty. Of that number 164 were in Iowa, and three of them were in Marion County.
