The City of Knoxville, as the local taxing body, collects Hotel/Motel tax, and the Chamber of Commerce has received an allocation of 50% of those collections for funding of tourism-related expenses. Recently the City requested an agreement with the Chamber, outlining the expectation of the reporting of use of funds and procedures, and the Chamber declined the proposal. After discussion, the Chamber has formed a counter-proposal, and submitted that to the city. KNIA KRLS News will continue to follow the discussions between the City and the Chamber.
