Knoxville Fire and Rescue Chief Deputy Greg Higginbotham has been with the department nearly 10 years, which, he says, is about 5 years longer than average for the job. Higginbotham says initially he wanted to be on the fire department; didn’t think he could handle the EMT part of the job. He says it didn’t take long before helping people in the community became important to him, and he decided that this job was for him. Higginbotham says that having grown up in the Knoxville community gives him a sense of satisfaction when he helps someone he knows – and that, in turn, can be the hardest part of being an EMT – seeing someone he knows suffer. We’ll have more from Higginbotham on Let’s Talk Knoxville, Thursday.
