May 18 through 24 is National Public Works Week, and the theme this year is “Building for Today, Planning for Tomorrow.” It is a celebration of the tens of thousands of men and women in North America who provide and maintain the infrastructure and services collectively known as public works. Patrick Murphy, with Knoxville Water Reclamation, tells KNIA KRLS News that it’s a way to show what public works are all about. On Wednesday this week, fire and rescue, police, water works and street department representatives were at Northstar Elementary with equipment and vehicles to show the kids how they work. Murphy says there used to be an indoor presentation, but they’ve found the kids respond to the outdoor display better.
