Miyoko Hikiji is an Army veteran, an author, and an actress. She is from Urbandale, and will be coming to the Knoxville Public Library on June 12 to discuss her book “All I Could Be.” Hikiji talks about her experiences driving a truck in Iraq and supporting a combat unit in Iraq. She joined the Army in 1995, and served in Iraq from early 2003 through Spring 2004, and kept a journal of her time so she could share the experience. She says her goal is to inspire people to think differently about women in the military, to see women as capable of being strong, brutal, good leaders, but not necessarily masculine; and that feminity and strength can exist together.
