Knoxville’s City ordinance regarding swimming pools states that any pool above 18 inches in depth, whether temporary or permanent, is required to have a 4 foot high, non-climbable fence around it. Community Service Officer Arlene Worrall tells KNIA KRLS News that the 2009 International Building Code requires all pools to have an enclosure around them, both temporary and permanent pools, above or below ground. The fence height requirement is a minimum of 4 feet. Swimming pools of any type should be set up in a backyard of a property. Please contact Knoxville City Hall if you have any questions regarding swimming pools.
