Strong storms moved through Marion County early Tuesday morning. The KNIA/KRLS Severe Weather Action Team was called into action at approximately 1:20 a.m. for a Severe Thunderstorm Warning. Our team of trained spotters reporting from around the county and in-studio reporters were on-the-air in both Knoxville and Pella until the warning expired at 2:45 a.m. The primary threats were winds in excess of 70 mph and heavy rainfall. We saw a gust of 61 mph at our studios in Knoxville, the Chariton Airport reported gusts of 66 mph, a 62 mph gust was reported in Monroe, and a 62 mph gust was reported on the Mile Long Bridge. Rain-rates averaged about an inch per hour during the warned times. We received reports from our trained spotters of pea-sized hail and 60 mph wind gusts in the western half of the county. As of 6AM this morning, over 250 people in the county are without power.
